Beantown Lindy Hop Summer Camp

Beantown Lindy Hop Summer Camp was founded in 1997 by Tony and Aurelie Tye of Hop to the Beat and Ivan and Elisabet Berggren of the Swedish Swing Society. The aim has always been to offer a camp that provides outstanding training in a setting with a warm community feel and a great social life. Each year the camp has continued to evolve along with the national and international Lindy scene.

Why Is Boston Called Beantown?

Back in Colonial days, a favorite Boston food was beans baked in molasses for several hours. Back then, Boston was sort of awash in molasses used for rum production. Rum production continued in Boston well after those early days. The Great Molasses Flood occurred on January 15, 1919 and killed 21 people. It was caused when a large tank holding molasses exploded in the North End.

Today, Boston Baked Beans are something of a rarity. There are no companies in the city making them and they are served in only a few restaurants.
