Camp Information
Minors
Any person 17 years or younger at the start of camp has to
be accompanied by a guardian. The guardian needs to live in the
same residence hall as the minor and has to be registered for the
camp. The guardian may either be the minor's parent/legal guardian
or an adult they assign to be guardian while at camp. To assign
a guardian, a Liability Release, Medical Release and
Waiver is required before the minor can
be registered.
Only a Waiver is required if the minor's parent is also attending
camp.
The Liability Release can be a letter that states that Endicott
College is
released of any liability while the minor is attending
Beantown Camp 2008.
The Medical Release can be a form obtained from a healthcare
provider (it will be called something like Authorization for
Medical Treatment of Minors). Alternatively it can be a letter
that states that the assigned guardian (give their name) is authorized
to make emergency medical decisions for treatment by a hospital
or physician should an injury occur to the minor. It should include
any relevant medical information including healthcare provider details
(name, telephone number, policy number). It must be signed by the
parent/legal guardian and include their contact information (telephone
numbers, address).
Go to the Waiver page to print a copy.
It must be signed by a parent/legal guardian on behalf of the minor
and sent in advance as well. It cannot be completed at check-in
by the minor.
If you do not have someone attending the camp who can act as guardian,
please have your parent or legal guardian contact us and we may
be able to find an adult who would be willing to do so.
Videotaping
Videotaping is not allowed at any of the camp classes or events,
including evening dances and performances, except by the camp
organizers. You are free to
videotape yourself or friends outside of camp events. You may also
videotape during Beantown’s Got Talent and class performances
on Wednesday evening (but not the Northeast
Lindy Hop Championships, social dancing
or other performances).
We have hired a videographer to make a Beantown Camp DVD of the
class material and Northeast Lindy
Hop Championships
this year. The DVDs from previous years will be available in the Camp
Shop.
General
Information
- All camp events, including evening dances, are only open to
those attending that part of camp. The
only
exceptions are the Beantown
Dance Parties on Saturday, June 28
and
Wednesday, July 2 which
are open to the public.
- Baby-Sitting Services: Nanny
Poppins, LLC is a North Shore full service nanny and baby-sitting agency. They can be
contacted directly through their website. www.nannypoppins.com

alcohol on
campus. It is not permitted to walk around outside with an open
container.
- Smoking: Endicott College is a non-smoking facility.
No smoking is
allowed in any building on campus. No candles/open flames are
allowed
in any of the buildings.
- Parking: There are plenty of
parking areas on campus, including lots near all
of
the dorm
buildings.

allowed in fire lanes or in unauthorized spaces. All campus roads
should be clear
of parked vehicles at all times. Refer
to the Campus
Map for the closest parking locations.
- Security: Campus Safety operates around the clock
and is located at the main entrance to the campus (32 on the
Campus Map). They can
be reached by dialing 978-232-2222, or just 2222
on
any
campus phone (for
on campus emergencies dial 1111
on
any
campus phone).
- Although unlikely, details are subject to change. Every
effort will
be made to post any changes on the What's
New page.
What
to Bring
- If you are rooming on campus, you need to bring a check
for $30 to check-in made out to Endicott College for your
room key and meal
card deposit. For all other participants, a $5
check is required for your meal
card deposit. Cash can be left as a deposit
although
checks
are
preferable, especially
if you
are leaving outside of check-out time. Your check will
be returned to you at check-out when you turn in your key and
meal card.
- Please bring ID with you at check-in. If taking the International
Tuition Discount please bring your
driver's license showing your home
address.
- All dance spaces have wooden floors and a change of shoes is
required. Two
of the class spaces (the Chapel and Aerobics Room)
require either suede (or chrome leather) soled shoes or clean
sneakers to be worn (no leather
or
hard
soled
shoes).
If
possible,
it would be best to have more than one pair of dance shoes. You
will want your shoes to be comfortable and no sharp heels please.
- Bring shoes to chrome!!
If you want to turn a wonderfully comfortable pair of shoes into
full time dance shoes that you can effortlessly slide across
the floor, Ed Wilson will be offering a shoe chroming party during
the weekend of camp. Bring the shoes, ten bucks, and a willingness
to do it yourself (with plenty of guidance available). Ed will
supply the materials. Best choices are shoes that offer lots
of arch support and have rubbery soles (the cement doesn't stick
to synthetic soles as well). Kits may be available in the camp
shop for a few dollars more.
- New
this year is Beantown's
Got Talent. Start
practicing. This is your chance to have all your dreams of being
a star
come true!
- Linens are provided with all of the housing
options.
Linen packages are included which consist of 1 pillow, blanket and set of
sheets, 2 towels, 1 face cloth, soap and cup. There is no housekeeping
service or linen exchange. You may want to bring extra towels, preferably bright
colored ones so as not to get them mixed up with the linen provided, and if you
have a favorite pillow, bring that too!
-
All dorms have washers and dryers as
well as some vending machines. (You may want to bring some laundry
detergent.) The machines can only be accessed using a prepaid
Endicott Gull Card and are not coin operated. The meal
card you receive at check-in is also a Gull Card and
to place money on it, there are two automatic money
boxes located on campus in the lower level of Callahan next
to the Beantown Café entracnce and in the Halle Library.
Money can also be added during business hours in the Bursar's
Office in College
Hall where
credit cards are also accepted. Money added to the card cannot
be refunded
so only place on it what you will need.

internet access as well
as most of the main buildings that we use.

Who
Attends?
In past years there has been a big spread of ages attending camp,
with many in their 20s to 50s, but with a fair number both younger
and older. If you are 17 years or younger please check the
section on Minors. We have
had people from all over the U.S. as well as internationally from
such countries as Canada, England, Ireland, Sweden, France, Germany,
the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary,
Japan and Australia. There is a mix of both singles and couples
who come. People's dance experience also varies from those who
have
never done any Swing dancing to those who have been Lindy Hopping
for very many years!
